When is the best time to go to Cambodia?
A trek in Cambodia can be done all year round. The country is subject to a tropical climate and a fairly complex monsoon regime, generally dominated by two seasons. One is dry, from October to November to March -April, and corresponds to the rainy season, from May to early October.
During the dry season, the monsoon brings little rain, and from November to March, average temperature can be cool (down to 14 C). This is the best time of year for a hiking tour in Cambodia.
During the raining season, a trek remains entirely possible since the precipitation mainly occurs in the afternoon.
What to do, what to visit, where to go during a stay in Cambodia?
Find all our favorites on Cambodian territory. From its wild tropical forest landscapes to the contemplation of local life: the charm of Cambodia will seduce you! A trek in Cambodia is also a very beautiful way to discover the country… to biggest Virachey National Park, land size 3.380.57 Km2.
Guide exploring the Angkor temple region!
The royal city of Angkor Wat, the ancient capital of the Khmer Empire located in the heart of a lush tropical forest, is the emblem of Cambodia. A visit to Angkor is a return to a sumptuous and remote area, a journey among the stone faces that fascinate with their enigmatic smiles. Here more than anywhere else, cycling can be the most enjoyable way to discover this UNESCO World Heritage site.
On the outskirts of Angkor, pre-Angkorian temples, notably Banteay Srei and Beng Mealea, seem to want to extricate themselves from the gnarled roots that surround them and are discovered through a trek made of mystery and adventure…
Tonle Sap Lake is the aquatic lung of Cambodia. The hike here takes the form of a trip by pirogue, and accommodation in the houses on stilts of the floating villages offers weightless nights and a privileged encounter with the inhabitants.

Wat is The Thai name for temple (the French spelling is Vat), which was probably added to Angkor when it became a Theravada Buddhist monument, most likely in the 16th century. After the capital gradually shifted to Phnom Penh, Angkor Wat was cared for by Buddhist monks. Some believe Angkor Wat was designed by Divakarapandita ,the chief adviser and minister of the king, who was of brahmin with divine honor. The Khmers attribute the building of Angkor Wat to the divine architect Visvakarman. Construction probably began early in the reign of Suryarvarman 2 and because his name appears posthumously the bas-reliefs and inscription it is believed that Angkor wat was completed after his death. Background: Angkor Thom, the last capital, was indeed a ” Great City” as its name implies, and it served as the religious and administrative Centre of the vast and powerful Khmer Empire. It was grander than any city in Europe at the time and must have supported a considerable population – which high as one million. Within the city walls were the residences of the king, his family and officials, military officers and priests while the rest of the people lived outside of the enclosure. The royal structures were built of wood have all perished, but remains of stone monuments let us glimpse at the pass grandeur of this once great capital. You can walk amongst the Bayon, the Terrace of the Elephant, Terrace of the Leper King, the Prasat suor Prat and others,as well as the earlier monuments of the Baphuon and Phimeanakas— all within the of Angkor Thom. Looking at these ruins it is easy to imagine why foreigners referred to Angkor Thom as ” an opulent city”. Zhou Daguan, the Chinese emissary who provided the only first-hand account of the Khmers, described the splendor of Angkor Thom: At the centre of the kingdomrises Golden Tower [Bayon] flanked by more than twenty lesser towers and several hundred stone chambers. On the eastern side is a golden bridge guarded by two lions of gold, one of each side, with eight golden Buddhas spaced along the stone chambers. North of the Golden Tower rises the Tower of Bronze [ Baphuon ],higher even than the Golden Tower: a truly astonishing spectacle, with more than ten chambers at its base. A quarter of a mile further north is the residence of the king. Rising above his private apartments is another tower of gold. These are the monuments which have caused merchants from overseas to speak so often of ” Cambodia the rich and noble”
Ta Prohm: the ” ancestor Brahma”
Location: Ta Prohm is located south-east of Ta Keo and east of Angkor Thom. Its outer enclosure wall is closed to the North-west corner Banteay Kdei. As you leave the temple, you will pass the more popular west entrance, where refreshment stall is located, as well as scores of children selling handicrafts — a barrage of shouting mostly avoided by entering from the east. Date: mid-12th century to early 13th century (1186) King: Jayavarman 7 (reigned 1181-1220) Religion: Buddhist (dedicated to the mother of the king) Art style: Bayon Tip: a torch and a compass are useful for visiting this temple at all times of day. Background: Ta Prohm was left untouched by archaeologists, except for the clearing of a path for visitors structural strengthening to stave off further deterioration. Because of its natural state, it is possible to experience at this temple some of the wonder of the early explorers, when they upon these monuments in the middle of the 19th century. Shrouded in jungle, the temple of Ta Prohm is ethereal in aspect and conjures up a romantic aura. Trunks of tree twist amongst stone pillars. Bayon and kapok trees spread their gigantic roots over, under and in between the stones, probing walls and terrace a part, as their branches and leaves intertwine to form a roof above the structures. Everywhere around you, you see Nature in its dual role of destroyer and consoler, strangling on the one hand, and healing on the other: no sooner spitting the carved stones asunder than she dresses their wounds with cool, velvety mosses, and feminine as to prove once more —if proof were needed—how well “Dame” Nature merits her feminine title!

Tipping isn’t expected in Cambodia, but it is always appreciated. Many service workers in Cambodia earn a low salary, so if you are happy with the services provided by waiters, drivers, guides or others, leaving a small tip depending on the service is a good way to show your appreciation. The amount is entirely a personal preference, however the commonly used guideline is USD $15–20 per day for tour guide and $5-10 per day for driver whereas In restaurants you can tip 10% of the bill and in hotels you may give $5 for bellman and maid. Of course, you are free to tip more or less as you see fit, depending on your perception of service quality and the length of your trip. Remember, a tip is not compulsory and should only be given when you receive excellent services.

No, we don’t but we strongly recommend you to buy your own travel insurance
The American dollars are accepted everywhere in Cambodia. If you withdraw money from an ATM machine with your international card, you’ll only get not Khmer Riels but only US Dollar and it’s accepted everywhere in Cambodia except COIN AND OLD NOTE. All torn or old note of US dollar bills or coin are not acceptable in Cambodia.
While visiting any temples, both male or female visitors must dress respectfully and at your own comfort, we strongly recommend modest clothing. This means clothing that covers your shoulders and knees. Loose, lightweight, long clothing is both respectful and cool in the predominantly hot Asian climate. Comfortable shoes are a must. The Apsara Authority which manages the park reserves the right to refuse entry to certain areas of the site for guests who wear clothing which is considered immodest.
During the trek:
For overnight in the jungle, you will be staying in a covered hammock with forest furniture to relax and eat our meals (each hammock has its own mosquito net attached). Sometimes we even build a roof tent above our hammocks depends on the weather. There are however no facilities to support camping in the forest so we organize an expedition from local villagers to take in our food and equipment. There will be also cooks, rangers and English speaking guide. These guys will cook and prepare hammock for you in the forests. Though everyone of the group will need to help carry some stuff like a hammock and a bit of water. The toilet facilities are rudimentary and ‘back to nature’ in style and bathing is in the stream.
All meals are provided with the trek as mentioned in the itinerary. Please note that there is no possibility of cooking different food for individuals. Please let us know at the time of booking if you are a vegetarian.
Is there Malaria?
Like much of rural Cambodia, the site has mosquitoes that may carry malaria.
Malaria can be potentially fatal if contracted and as such clients are advised to seek medical advice concerning malaria avoidance prior to visiting the site. Avoiding being bitten by mosquitoes is the most effective way to avoid malaria.
Many travelers to Cambodia also choose to take malaria prophylaxis, a medication which prevents malaria in the case of infection. If you become ill after leaving the site, be aware that you may have malaria and need to seek immediate medical advice.
Cambodia experiences a dry season and a green season. The dry season occurs each year from about November to June. The wet season comprises the remainder of the year, with rain and flooding occurring in varying degrees of intensity. Hence we will only be running treks for 8 months each year. During this period, we plan to take back to back treks, however, at certain times it can be difficult to walk up and down the mountains. If the weather is particularly bad then there could be some blackout dates during this period. We will endeavor to take treks with limited interruptions.
Cambodia roads can also be rough and bumpy, and delays are sometimes unavoidable. A dash of patience will go a long way toward your enjoyment of this beautiful country!
