Spanning approximately 3,380.57 km² (1,305.25 square miles), this vast sanctuary is Cambodia’s largest national park and plays a crucial role in conserving flora and fauna of international significance. The park stretches east toward Vietnam, north to Laos, and west to Stung Treng Province, encompassing some of the deepest, most isolated jungles in the region.

Within this largely unexplored wilderness, you will encounter a dazzling array of natural marvels. Virachey National Park offers a dynamic landscape of cascading waterfalls, rugged mountain forests, expansive upland savannahs, dense bamboo thickets, and scattered pockets of mixed deciduous forest. Here, visitors can indulge in birdwatching, mountain climbing, trekking, and the exhilarating experience of bamboo rafting along pristine rivers.

While the park is home to rare mammals such as elephants, clouded tigers, leopards, and sun bears, encountering these elusive creatures is exceedingly rare. Instead, the forest comes alive with the haunting calls of endangered gibbons, and if you’re fortunate, you may catch glimpses of great hornbills, giant ibises, and Germain’s peacock-pheasants soaring overhead. Itinerary:

• 08:20 AM: Pickup from your hotel in Banlung or, if preferred, from the bus station.
• 10:20 AM: Arrive at the trekking point where you’ll register and begin your trek.
• 03:30–04:00 PM: The trek concludes.
• 05:00 PM: Drop-off back at your hotel.

• Daily Trekking Duration: Approximately 5–6 hours.
• Daily Distance: 15–20 km.
• Destination: Veoun Sai District at Virachey National Park.
• Difficulty Level: Medium-Hard.

Detailed itinerary:

Day 1: Into the Jungle

• Morning Departure:
  • 8:30 AM: Pick-up at your Banlung hotel after breakfast.
  • Preparation: Ensure your backpack is ready as we depart by tuk-tuk, motor, or car.
• Journey to Rokk’s Village:
  • Drive: Enjoy an hour-long drive toward northern Banlung.
  • Ferry Crossing: Arrive at the Sesan River by 9:30 AM and board a 10-minute ferry.
  • Continued Travel: A further 30-minute drive brings you to Rokk’s Village—the home of the Kavet ethnic tribe.
• Commencement of Trek:
  • Begin your walk from Rokk’s Village toward the O’Lalai River.
  • Cross the river into the national park and spend the next 4–5 hours trekking approximately 15 km.
  • Your knowledgeable tour guide and indigenous ranger share fascinating insights about the jungle ecosystem—including its edible fruits, vegetables, medicinal plants, and ancient trees.
• Arrival at Camp:
  • Reach the scenic Chhay Chhaynang Waterfall, where a campsite with tire hammocks awaits.
  • Take a refreshing dip under the waterfall and, as dusk falls, gather around a wood fire.
  • Enjoy a hearty dinner featuring traditional bamboo soup cooked on an open flame.
  • Note: During the rainy season (July to early October), leeches may be present; however, a bug spray is provided for protection.

Day 2: Deep Jungle Immersion

• Morning Awakening:
  • Wake to the symphony of jungle birds and enjoy a hot cup of coffee or tea.
  • Delight in a wood-fire breakfast prepared by your guide and ranger.
• Trekking Through Verdant Trails:
  • Trek for 5–6 hours covering 15–20 km on well-beaten paths, often cleared with a tool in hand by the ranger.
  • Walk beneath towering, ancient trees and take in panoramic views of lush evergreen canopies.
  • Experience the jungle’s ever-changing atmosphere as seasonal variations reveal new facets of the forest.
• Midday Break:
  • Pause for a satisfying one-hour lunch by a small, flowing river.
  • Enjoy a refreshing wash in the cool water, recharging for the journey ahead.
• Evening Camp:
  • Arrive at a picturesque riverside campsite.
  • Feast on another serving of our signature traditional bamboo soup while gaining insights into its culinary heritage from your ranger.
  • Absorb the rich, immersive ambiance as the day concludes with a heartfelt campfire under the starry sky.

Day 3: Final Exploration & Bamboo Rafting

• Early Morning Start:
  • Stir with the cheerful sounds of the jungle as you sip your morning coffee or tea.
  • Enjoy a final wood-fire breakfast and pack up your gear.
• Exploration & Wildlife Encounters:
  • Trek deeper into the dense forest where you might catch glimpses of gibbon herds, vibrant bird species—including Germain’s peacock pheasant, woodpeckers, sunbirds, and flowerpeckers—as well as hornbills.
  • Although sighting elusive creatures like wild dogs (dholes) or the Asiatic black bear is a matter of luck, the magical forest ambiance is guaranteed to captivate you.
  • The trail, regularly cleared by the guide’s machete, unveils striking flora such as majestic dipterocarps and remarkable trees like Sidora and Lagerstroemia.

Optional Conclusion: Return by Bamboo Rafting

• Bamboo Rafting Adventure For a unique finale, opt for a 2–3-hour bamboo raft ride on the O’Lalai River. Drift downstream as you revisit the scenic landscapes, passing through Kok Lak commune and returning to Rokk’s Village—the starting point of your trek.
• Return to Banlung A motor or tuk-tuk will transfer you to the Sesan River for a final crossing. Following an approximately one-hour drive, you’ll reach your Banlung hotel by 4:00–5:00 PM.
